Accessibility Statement

This document was prepared for review by a qualified attorney and may change before launch.

Our goal

FoundRadar is a free, volunteer-run lost pet network. When a pet goes missing, every minute counts, and everyone should be able to post a report and search for pets without help. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

This is a goal we work toward, not a certification. We have not had the site audited by an outside accessibility firm.

What we do

• Use clear headings, labels, and plain language written for easy reading.
• Make every page and form usable with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
• Give images text alternatives.
• Show form errors next to the field, move focus to the first error, and announce errors to screen readers.
• Keep text and controls at contrast levels that meet WCAG AA.
• Respect your device's "reduce motion" setting.
• Let pages work when zoomed to 200% and on small screens.
• Check pages with a keyboard and a screen reader as we build them.

Known limitations

• Maps. The map used to place the last-seen pin, and the map on report pages, can be hard to use with a screen reader or keyboard. You never need the map. On the report form, you can type a ZIP code or cross streets instead of placing a pin. Report pages also show the last-seen place description in text.
• "Use my location." This button depends on your browser's location feature and permission prompt, which we do not control. Typing a ZIP code or cross streets always works.
• Pet photos. Photos come from pet owners. Their text alternatives are based on the details the owner enters, so they may not describe everything in a photo.
• Printable flyers. Flyers are designed for paper. The report page has the same information in an accessible web format.
• Content posted by users. We cannot control the wording or quality of every report, but our moderators may fix formatting that causes problems.

We are working to fix issues as we find them.

If something on FoundRadar is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us. Write to the contact form at /contact and include:

• the page link or what you were trying to do;
• what went wrong;
• the device, browser, and assistive technology you use, if you are comfortable sharing it.

If you need help posting a report right now, tell us that too. A volunteer will try to help you post it or give you the information in another format. We aim to reply within 5 business days. As volunteers, we may sometimes take longer, but we read every message.

Technical details

FoundRadar is built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and relies on these technologies to work with your browser and any assistive technology you use. The site works in current versions of major browsers.

We review this statement when we make major changes to the site. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
